if you don’t have the plugin installed, you’ll be prompted to install it automatically. It’s a 45mb download, and you have to restart your browser, but this is worth it, trust me :-)

You can see our first attempt at its implementation here. Be sure to watch how the world spins around as you navigate the panorama. You can click hotspots both inside the panorama, and in google earth. Also, try the “tour” checkbox. This is kind of an autopilot, you can sit back and fly around from place to place.

the PC version was released at the Google IO conference back in May. At the time they predicted that a mac version would be available in August. Alas, it was delayed a bit, as software projects sometimes are ;-) But now it’s here! We’ve been working like hell on a new version of our mapping / VR panorama interface, hoping that soon it will be usable by a larger swath of humanity. And now it is – with both PC and Mac support, I predict this google earth plugin will start to really gain some popularity. It is just so damn awesome :)

Be sure to check out the way the earth spins around, as you spin around inside the panorama. You can also click the “tour” box and fly automatically from one place to another. I have to really be careful not to waste all my time playing around on this thing. ;)
